> Has it already been that long ago in the past that you joined RHT? Wow!
> The history if it is ever recorded would make for fascinating reading.Rock on!
> And congratulations.

Thanks, yeah, time flies when you are having fun.

In all that time, I've been on 7 major teams working on dozens of wildly different projects. Writing the RHEL 4 SELinux Guide is about as far removed from what I do today as when I used to do on-site open source assessments for professional services. Actually, assessments are much closer to the now-me.

Key for me has been keeping myself active and interested in new things. I'm a fair closer, not the best for sure, but I know how to seed and kick-off new ideas, oh yeah!

This is one reason the Community Architecture team is a great fit for me. It's the right mix of high-level strategy with a motto of "get in, get it moving, get out of the way" that lets me move my interest and focus within the team instead of hopping to another team. :)

> So that’s how you become useful…you work at red hat

I'll be honest in saying, if that's the only solution, then I think Red Hat has failed.

Building a monolithic starship of a company is something born of the 19th century that ruined the 20th century, and I hope we don't see as much of in the future. :)

This is one of the reasons I think it's imperative that Red Hat teach how to do open source business, not just deliver open source solutions. We need many, many more companies that know what to do with misfit geniuses combined with community values.

For example, were I starting out today, I'd want to work for Auttomatic (Wordpress.com) or Indifex (Transifex.net) or StatusNet (identi.ca). Or start one up from scratch,
