Adam Williamson made a blog post about Revising the QA Wiki Space and I have a few requests for them. (I tried to leave a comment on his blog, but comments are only for registered users, and registering never got me a password, so I’m doing this here. So I guess my first request is to ask Adam to turn comments on for his blog. If he doesn’t trust Akismet to protect him from spam, can you allow OpenID access from *.id.fedoraproject.org?)
- As you update the QA pages, please follow the wiki page naming and structural guidelines.
- At least a few of you working in QA and maintaining wiki pages should join the fedora-wiki mailing list. It’s a relatively low volume, high value list where we discuss wiki policy, tips, and so forth.
- If you are going to be renaming some or all of your pages (and you should if they are in the unsearchable format of “Some/Content/Deeply/NestedWithCamelCase/Names”), then take a look at the wiki page renaming project. If you have commit rights to anything on fedorahosted.org you can check-in and maintain a pipe-separated values (PSV) file. Take a look at the existing ones for format.
If you’ve any questions about this or other best ways to work with MediaWiki, drop by #fedora-docs anytime and ask for guidance. If you are fortunate, the Wiki Czar will be lurking.
Not getting a password is probably something to do with this:

Thanks for the guidelines. I know all about the naming issue; we had the same issues at Mandriva (moving from an old, nested wiki to mediawiki, which isn’t nested, and explaining to people why a bunch of / in page names is not a good idea and they should change them all). For now, I’m not going to fight that battle too hard, as the QA space is already quite heavily fake-nested, and it’d be a big project to re-arrange everything. If I tie the ‘make the pages nicer’ project to the ‘make the naming sane’ project, it may take months before either gets done, which I’d like to avoid.
I’ll sign up for the list soon. Thanks again for the pointers.
Yeah, that must have been during the DNS outage that caused @fedoraproject.org aliases to bounce (among other things.) Sorry if I sounded snarky, I hate those, “I’m blog posting instead of commenting on your blog and keeping the conversation in one place” replies, and that was where I was coming from.
I encourage you to name new pages according to a new scheme and take advantage of categories for information nesting and architecture. If you put all pages fake-nested or not in the same categories, they are all findable, and the others can be renamed in the future.
